Privacy Policy for Rewrita

Rewrita is a Chrome extension that helps you rewrite and translate text you select on websites.

Data We Process

Rewrita may process the following data only to provide the features you use:

  • User-selected text (only when you trigger Rewrite or Translate).
  • Extension settings stored locally in your browser (for example: default mode, UI preferences, plan cache).
  • Account and plan status (Free/Pro) and basic subscription metadata needed to enable Pro features.

How Data Is Used

  • When you click Rewrite or Translate, the selected text is sent to Rewrita’s backend API to generate the result.
  • The result is shown to you in the extension UI.
  • Settings are stored locally in your browser so Rewrita can remember preferences.

Logging of Selected Text

  • We do not store or keep logs of your selected text on our backend.
  • Rewrita is designed so your text is processed only when you explicitly trigger Rewrite or Translate.

Analytics / Telemetry

Rewrita uses AWS CloudWatch for operational monitoring (for example, service health, performance metrics, and error diagnostics).

  • Telemetry is used to keep the service reliable and secure.
  • We do not intentionally send or store your selected text in CloudWatch logs.
  • We aim to minimize data collected in logs (for example, avoiding sensitive payloads).

Payments (Pro)

Rewrita offers an optional Pro subscription. Payments are processed by Stripe. Rewrita does not store full payment card details.

Data Sharing

Rewrita shares selected text only with Rewrita’s backend API to generate results.

Payment-related data may be processed by Stripe according to Stripe’s own policies.

What We Do Not Do

  • We do not sell your personal data.
  • We do not use your selected text for advertising.
  • We do not collect browsing history for tracking.
  • We do not run remote executable code in your browser.
  • We do not request your passwords or private keys.

Data Retention

  • Selected text: Rewrita processes selected text to generate results and does not store it permanently.
  • Local settings: stored in your browser until you change them or uninstall the extension.
  • Account/plan data: basic subscription status may be stored to keep your Pro access working.
  • Operational logs/telemetry: retained only as needed for security and reliability (via AWS CloudWatch).

If Rewrita later adds history/logging features, this policy will be updated accordingly.

Security

  • Data is transmitted over HTTPS.
  • Rewrita is designed so your text is processed only when you explicitly trigger Rewrite or Translate.

Refunds

Rewrita does not offer refunds, except where required by applicable law.

User Control

You can:

  • Uninstall the extension to remove local settings.
  • Change settings at any time.
  • Manage or cancel your subscription via the Stripe customer portal (if available).
